Bookmobile coming to Union City this summer

UNION CITY — Union City Day was Saturday. The threat of rain discouraged some yard sale participation but overall it was a good day. Fundraising activities by the club raised more than expenses, so that is good news.

Silent auction items were donated by a number of local businesses. Items were weather clock by Tractor Supply, two guest passes by Cinemax, $75 party by Galaxy Bowling, $25 gift card by Koto Japanese Bistro, two buffet by Ryan's, flower arrangement by Andrea's Flowers, four lunches by McAlisters Deli, EKU sweatshirt and EKU hat by First Gear, EKU jacket by University Book Supply and two pounds of fudge by Marty Sewell.

Two raffles were in progress during the day. A quilt made by Mary Sewell was won by her grandson, McKinley Sewell. Janet Eades won the television, Charles Cochran was drawn for the GPS unit. Robert Murphy and Marty Sewell each won a set of cookware.

The Union City Fire Department gave a fire extinguisher and this went to Amanda Eades.

When reading this, you may think it looks like an insider conspiracy, but I was present for the drawings and must say they were done with utmost integrity. It was just a matter of chance.

Jane Harris informs us that the bookmobile from Madison County Library will be coming to Union City this summer. The first day for the bookmobile will be June 12 and then every two weeks thereafter.

Kentucky Blood Center collected blood on Tuesday of this week. There were eighteen units of blood given at this session. Thanks to all who came.

Happy Birthday this week to Leah Eaton, Gary Murphy and Donnie Newman, Saturday; Mary Leslie Wells, Wednesday; and Tim Murphy, next Thursday. If you have news or announcements let me know at 623-3880 or email
