Community churches plan back-to-school events

MADISON COUNTY — Hello everyone. Thoughts are going back to school. I think Garrard and Estill counties are to return to school about a week earlier than Madison County. What happened to the summer vacation?

I think it is great that we have so many loving churches in our community that help out with those in need of school supplies and clothing.

Gilead Baptist Church in Poosey is having its back-to-school bash from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. They will be having a bouncy blow up slide, a cookout, a back-to-school store with free supplies, a free prize table and lots of fun, fun, fun. Anyone child in need, stop by for some great fellowship food and supplies. Everyone is invited to come and join in.

Then from 8 a.m. to noon, Aug. 10, The Full Gospel Tabernacle will be having its back-to-school bash. The church will be providing all the essentials to get ready for school. Bring your child in order to get your first day of school clothing.

The Kirksville clothing closet sponsored by the Kirksville Baptist Church has changed its usual opening day to Aug. 10 to coincide with the Full Gospel Tabernacle back-to-school bash. This will be one-stop shopping to get the things the kids need for school.

Anyone in the community that would like to donate school supplies or monetary donations, please contact me at 328-9181.

The Full Gospel Tabernacle will be having a fundraiser bake sale at the farmers market in the Lowe’s parking lot this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Bake some items or bring yourself to buy a lot of goodies. The money will go towards the Back-to-School Bash.

Let’s talk gardening. I complained about too much rain, now I can say it is getting too dry. I have started picking blackberries. They started out great, but with the spotty rain showers that we have been having, they are slowing down quickly. The June bugs are all over the berries. I usually see them abundantly a little later on. Oh well, that just means that I need to get a little quicker and a little more frequent to beat the June bugs from eating all my berries.

Duane and I have been able to go for a few Trike rides, no big long trips yet. I wanted to thank Josh from Honda of Richmond for being so speedy in getting my microphone fixed in my helmet. Duane probably thought it was nice not hearing me talk so much. Duane says “thanks a lot.” No, I am not a backseat driver on the Trike, but I do enjoy being the driver of my Trike.

I love this time of the year because eggs really do go down in price during the Easter season. I have some new recipes on how to fix eggs besides the coloring part.
