Volunteers needed for tornado shelter

WACO — Hi!

I’ve felt (almost) like I was at Daytona Beach lately, what with the sultry days and daily afternoon thunder showers. Now, if I could just look out my back door and see the ocean .... ah-h-h.

Speaking of storms, this note from Tim Jones, pastor of Flatwoods Christian Church: “March 2, 2012, the Flatwoods building was used as a shelter during the tornado warnings. The Madison County EMA focused on people living in mobile homes to use such a shelter.

“The EMA came to visit Thursday, and they want to continue to use our building if watches occur in the future.

“What we do need is a few volunteers who could back me up with this endeavor.  Hopefully, someone near the building who could come and unlock and be on hand in case I am not available. These watches could occur anytime during day or night.

“June 30 is Fifth Sunday. We will have Fifth Sunday Dinner. Also on that day the offering will go to International Disaster Emergency Service. This organization is helping with recent tornado relief in the midwest.”

Waco Baptist Church will host a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. until noon Saturday in the fellowship hall.

Birthdays? Yep, a few. The birthday honorees are:  Laura Wooten,June 19; Scott Marshall, June 20; Dale Carrier, June 20; Stacy Martinez, June 22; and Fayez Faraj, June 22.

That’s about it for this week. Have a great one!
