Beekeeping class for beginners is slated April 29

MADISON COUNTY — If you are interested in beekeeping, want to learn about the basics of beekeeping or you own bees and just want to learn a little bit more, plan on attending one of the beekeeping classes on April 29. This class will be offered twice, once at 12 noon and again at 6 p.m. Sean Bessin, Agricultural Agent Intern, will cover some of the basics of beekeeping such as what to consider when getting started, what it takes to get through a full season of beekeeping, and other basic beekeeping considerations. Sean has been around bees his whole life and has three years of experience on his own. Please call the Madison County Extension Office to reserve a seat for the class at 859-623-4072.

Beef Cattle Association Forage Workshop planned

Madison County Beef Cattle Association is presenting a “Forage Workshop” on Thursday, May 2nd, at the Thomas Farm, 2370 Union City Road, Richmond, KY 40475. The workshop will begin at 5 p.m. and run through 7:30 p.m. Presentations by UK Extension Forage Specialist Dr. Ray Smith, and Beef Cattle Specialist Dr. Jeff Lehmkuhler. Topics will include:  Alfalfa Establishment; No-Till drill use and set-up; Feeding baleage to beef cattle; Hay wrapper and Tub grinder demonstrations using baleage.

A meal will be served. Cost will be $5 per person for non-members or you can renew your membership for $30 (single) or $45 (couple) and eat for free. Please call the Madison County Extension Office at (859) 623-4072 for meal reservations or for more information.
