Affordable Care Act workshop April 29

By Gina Noe

MADISON COUNTY — The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 will help Kentuckians from all walks of life get and keep affordable health insurance while putting safeguards in place to improve quality and contain costs.

The law:

• Ensures working families cannot be denied coverage because of a pre-existing health condition

• Allows children to stay on their parents health insurance until age 26

• Will close the Medicare donut hole over time and cover prevention services such as free annual check-ups for seniors

• Provide tax credits to small businesses to make providing coverage to employees more affordable.

On Monday, April 29, the Madison County Cooperative Extension Service and the Kentucky Small Business Development Center will host two workshops to help you find out more about what the Affordable Care Act will mean to you. The sessions are:

• 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. – Lunch and Learn for Small Business Owners. Learn about changes, benefits and tax credits that might be available to small businesses, as well as how the new health benefit exchange will function. Lunch will be $7, payable at the door. Register at www.goo.gl/Tt74o by Friday, April 26.

• 6-7:30 p.m. – What Does the Affordable Health Care Act Mean to Me. This session will be open to the general public and will include time for questions. Learn how the new health benefit exchange will function and what changes and benefits you can expect. This session is free, but seating will be limited. Call 623-4072 to register for this session.

Ragan Hunt, executive director of Kentucky Voices For Health, will be the presenter.

Both workshops will be conducted at the Madison County Extension Education Center, 230 Duncannon Lane, and are open to the public. Seating is limited so register soon.
