Several April activities planned in Union City

UNION CITY — We appreciate Gary Short, who came to Union City last Saturday and gave rabies shots to a good number of dogs and cats.

The next Union City fish fry will be Saturday, April 20, beginning at 5 p.m.

Union City Day is set for Saturday, May 18.

Two raffles are underway. One is for a quilt handmade by Mary Sewell. Then, there is a raffle for several prizes including, a 32-inch television, Garmin GPS unit and Paula Deen Cookware. See a Ruritan member to purchase a ticket. All proceeds from both raffles will go to the floor replacement fund.

Union City Christian Church will have a special concert on Sunday, April 28, at 6 p.m.

A group of Union City church members known as UCC4 will be singing. They are Diane Thacker, Danny Broomfield, Mike and Jessica Lynn with Sally Childers at the piano.

Easter Sunday, Union City Baptist Church exceeded the $1,100 goal with a special Easter offering of $1,200. These funds will go to the Annie Armstrong fund for North American Missions.

The Baptist church had Larry Shearer, representing Gideons International, speak at the morning service last Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, there was a celebration at the church. Friends and family of Johnny and Ann Covington gathered  to celebrate the Covington’s 50th anniversary. Congratulations!

Anniverary wishes go out to neighbors Bill and Jo Anderson next Thursday.

Belated wishes to Linda Murphy whose birthday was Wednesday.

Happy birthday this week to Andrew Allen, Saturday; Daniel Blevins and Russell Thomas, Monday; and Thomas Short, next Thursday.
