Ezra Haggard to teach gardening class Saturday at RAAC

Richmond Area Arts Center

RICHMOND — Landscaper and published author Ezra Haggard will teach a class, “Proven Plants for Kentucky,” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Richmond Area Arts Center, 399 W. Water St. Tuition is $15.

Haggard will also have some of his books and birdhouses for sale.

The class will focus on both native and non-native plants Haggard has used during his 33 years of designing and building gardens.

He will talk about perennials, shrubs and trees that have proven to grow well and thrive in Kentucky. Over the span of his career, he has never been able to speak without mentioning his favorite perennials, shrubs, or trees that he feels are woven together like treasured friends to help him create beautiful gardens.

To thrive in Kentucky’s climate, plants have to endure both low temperatures and the heat for our summers. The main criteria for his proven plant list are  hardiness, vigorousness and longevity.

He is the photographer of three books, and the author of two, “Perennials” and “Trees, Shrubs and Roses.” All of his books were written with Kentucky at the heart of his landscape practice.

To register for class or for more details, contact the Richmond Area Arts Council at 624-4242 or by email at debbie@artsinrichmond.org
