The Madison County Fair starts July 25 and goes through Aug. 3. Make plans to attend the various livestock shows during this time.
Kicking off the fair this year are 4-H exhibits Thursday, July 25. The 4-H youth poultry show is Saturday, July 27, at 9 a.m. in Harold Richardson Floral Hall and is open to all youth ages 18 and younger. Also July 27 are the 4-H dairy and horse shows.
Sunday is family fun night with many activities for kids including games, laser tag and a car show. General admission to the fair is free on this night, but does not include rides. If you want to participate in the carnival portion, admission is $5.
The beef cattle show will take place on Tuesday July 30th at 6 p.m. There will be Open 4-H and FFA classes as well as regular Open cattle classes. Breeds include Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Gelbvieh, Simmental and All Other Breeds/Crossbreeds.
Other classes may be added if needed. On Wednesday, July 31, at 6 p.m., the 4-H and FFA Open Goat Show will be in the Embry Curry Arena. Also, don’t forget about the greased pig contest on Tuesday, July 30, at 8 p.m.! Madison/Estill County Farm Service Agency News Release
USDA extended the acreage reporting deadline for FSA to Aug. 2, 2013, (Risk Mgt. Crop Insurance deadline remains the same, July 15.). Farmers have until Aug. 2, 2013, to submit their annual report of acreage to the Farm Service Agency. Acreage reports are necessary to maintain eligibility for various USDA programs.
Producers with Crop Insurance are reminded to report any covered loss within 72 hours of discovery to their insurance company. An insurance adjuster must view and release the crop before crop is destroyed. If you have questions contact a local crop insurance agent for more information.
