Every year, a particular groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, is expected to do his perfunctory duty and come out to check the weather.
Every Feb. 2, the notable and famous groundhog leaves his burrow to see if it is sunny enough to make his shadow on the ground.
If Phil does indeed see his shadow, tradition denotes that wintry weather will hang around for another six weeks. Otherwise, spring is right around the corner.
Although there are many diehard Groundhog Day enthusiasts, to some people, the legend and historical origins of Groundhog Day are a mystery.
You be the judge!
Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow this Saturday?
Watch for the newscasters to announce the results of this Groundhog Day, Feb. 2.
