EKU geriatrics program students, Morning Pointe residents enjoy Christmas party

RICHMOND — The geriatrics class from Eastern Kentucky University’s Parks and Recreation Department put together a Christmas celebration for their “buddies” at Morning Pointe before their hectic week of finals.

Residents and students sang Christmas carols while creating holiday cards and picture frames.

Prof. Sherry Jones, the geriatrics class instructor, invited Dr. John McChesney, Parks and Recreation Department chair, and Dr. Michelle Gerken, therapeutic recreation professor, to attend the event and see the students’ engagement with the residents.

The EKU students graciously purchased individual gifts for the residents to open.

“This was something the students decided to do on their own,” Jones explained. “The residents have said over and over how incredibly special this Christmas has been to them with all the people who have generously and compassionately given from their hearts,” said Mariah Fosdick, life enrichment director for the senior care community.
