UNION CITY — Congratulations to the Madison Central basketball team on winning that historic game Sunday to become state champions.

We wish the girls team the same success as they begin tournament play today against Notre Dame at Bowling Green.

Liberty Chapel will have the Third Sunday Singing this Sunday, March 17, at 6 p.m. Featured music will be by the Richardson Family. For more information, contact Billy Wall at 623-5049.

Kentucky Blood Center will conduct a blood drive Tuesday, March 19, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the Union City Ruritan building. Your donation saves lives.

Saturday, March 23, Union City Ruritan will have a soup bean supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Featured music for the night will be provided by Trinity Airs. We are sorry to hear “His Own” will not be able to attend this event.

Union City Homemakers Club will meet tonight (March 14) at 7 o’clock. If you want more information about the club or if you want to join, contact Mary Louise Sewell at 623-9369.

The “Young At Heart” group at Union City Baptist Church will participate in a “Red Bunny Train Trip” at Stearns, Ky. on April 6. If you did not sign up last Sunday, you have missed the train!

The Baptist church will have a special Easter offering for North American Missions. The goal is $1,100.

Logan Wallace Murphy of Mt. Sterling recently was named to the dean’s list for the 2012 fall semester at University of Kentucky. A student must earn a GPA of 3.6 or better on a scale of 4.0. Logan is the son of Tony and Teresa Murphy of Mt. Sterling and grandson of Royce and Geneva Murphy of Union City.

Happy birthday this week to Ruth Gross, Friday; Kimberly Steele, Saturday; Andrew McAfee, Monday; Emma Sue Noland, Tuesday; Tina Hunter, Alisa Allen and Tyler Combs, Wednesday.
