Spring lurking right around the corner

Waco News

WACO — Hi! Can you believe next week will be March?

Spring is coming – yay!

With our wacky winter weather, wonder what spring will be like, hmmm?

Congratulations and welcome into this world Grayce Jo Hanson Hatterick!

Grayce Jo was born Feb. 18 and weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and is 19.5 inches long.

Mom, dad and big sister Ashlyn are just so proud of this new addition to their family. Mom is a third grade teacher at Waco Elementary and the students have been anxiously awaiting this birth.

Flatwoods Cemetery Association will have its annual spring cleanup next month.

If you would like to remove flowers or wreaths from your loved one’s grave before the cleanup, please feel free to do so. It would help the cleanup crew a lot.

The date set is for late March, so you still have plenty of time.

Birthday wishes go out to Isabella Tipton, Feb. 22; Richard Fox and Kathrine Hix, Feb. 23; Logan Plummer, Feb. 26; and Chris Wilson, Feb. 29.

I would have wished Uncle Leon Centers a happy birthday this week. He was to celebrate with family and friends at the Smokehouse restaurant this weekend.

Leon will be celebrating in heaven instead.

He passed away late Sunday evening and was laid to rest in Memorial Gardens on Wednesday. Your prayers for the family are requested at this time.

That’s about it for this week, have a great one!

It was so good to see you Della Faye, “Little” Faye, Douglas, Aunt Barb and family, as well as Geraldine, James, Tracey Lynn and their families. So sad it had to be at the funeral home.

Summer vacation season is in full swing, and I had the pleasure of spending the last week and a half filling in at the Farm Store while the store manager, Bethany Pratt, got a welcome respite soaking up the beauty of Ireland.

The extension office has received numerous phone calls over the past couple of weeks about large wasps hovering in yards all over the county.
This insect is called the cicada killer, and despite its aggressive name, it is not something to be scared of.

Maintaining a controlled breeding and calving season can be one of the most important management tools for cow-calf producers.
Uniform, heavier and more valuable calves are key reasons to keep the breeding season short.

I often flash back to the days from the mid to late 1930s when I was a paper boy.
There were 10 or 12 of us who rolled out of bed at 5 a.m. every day, jumped on our bicycles and headed downtown to the Glyndon Hotel and picked up our papers for delivery.

The following were included in last year’s exams and were answered by 16-year-old high school students. The answers are genuine, and we must remember that these youngsters will grow up to vote, marry and become parents. It’s a scary thought.

Hello readers, it’s a stormy Monday evening as I write this, and I’ve been thanking the Lord all day for the good rain – over an inch in the gauge now, and it looks like more before morning.
