Ruritan members, family gather for Christmas dinner

Union City

UNION CITY — Union City Ruritan building was full Saturday night as members and family came together for the annual Christmas dinner.

The meal included ham, turkey and an abundance of other foods.

Following the meal, there was a special presentation. Union City’s volunteer fire chief presented Leo Conner with a plaque of appreciation which read, “Union City Vol. Fire Dept. presents this award to Leo Conner in recognition and appreciation for 40 years of dedicated service 1972-2012.”

Madison County Fire Chief Jim Cox also presented Conner an appreciation plaque from the Madison County Fire Department.

The community appreciates Leo for his faithfulness to both Ruritan and the fire department.

New windows in the Ruritan building have been installed. Almost enough money has been raised to cover the cost. Money above the windows’ need will go toward doors. The deadline for giving to the Windows Fund will be Jan. 1. If you wish to donate, contact Robert Murphy at 623-9461 for details.

Union City Christian Church will have a children’s Christmas program, “The Cupcake Christmas,” Sunday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m. Casey Daugherty is director of this program.

“His Own” is a gospel music quartet made up of Phill Cole, Debbie Broaddus, Jessica and Rick Hayes, and pianist Sally Childers.

This group is releasing a new CD with a party and invite you to celebrate with them on Saturday, Dec. 8.

There will be refreshments at 5 p.m. and a free concert at 6 p.m. at Big Hill Christian Church, Goggins Lane, Richmond.

Birthday wishes to Marla Steele on Monday and Sondra Moberly next Thursday.
