Bred heifer and cow/calf sale Oct. 15

RICHMOND — If you need top quality bred replacement heifers for your herd, make plans to attend the Top of the Crop bred heifer and cow/calf sale on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluegrass Stockyards in Richmond.

There will be approximately 140 head of bred heifers selling. Breeds represented are Angus, Angus/Gelbvieh, Angus/Simmental, Angus X, Charolais X, Simmental X. These heifers will be bred to calve late February through early April with most due in March. Many of these heifers are home raised from right here in Madison County. All heifers have met the Kentucky Department of Agriculture guidelines for the herd-builder program which includes:

“ Vaccinated and boostered for respiratory viral diseases, lepto, vibrio, 7 strains of Clostridia (some heifers are calfhood vaccinated and PI tested)

“ Dewormed

“ Bred to easy calving bulls (EPDs listed in catalog)

“ Minimum pelvic area of 180 sq. cm.

“ Guaranteed safe in calf 30 days after sale

“ Screened for blemishes, disposition and structural correctness by local committee and KDA grader

“ Identified with EID tag

Also this year we will be offering 25 cow calf pairs. They are first calf cows and have met identical development guidelines as the bred heifers. Most of the calves were born in September of this year.

**Bred heifers are eligible for cost-share purchases through the CAIP (Phase I) program. Cow/calf pairs are not eligible!!!**

Heifers and pairs can be inspected starting at 4 pm day of the sale.
