WACO — Hi! Here we go again – just as the luscious warm, sunny days of late lull us into visions of spring-like summer days ahead, Mother Nature jerks us back into winter. Have you seen the forecast for later this week? Br-r-r-r.

Notes from Pastor Jones

From the desk of Tim Jones, pastor of Flatwoods Christian Church, we have these notes:

Thank you for your cooperation by signing up for photos to go into our next church directory. A few openings are left for Tuesday, April 30, at 9 p.m.

Special reminder: When you come in for portraits, there will be a donation container for God’s Outreach of Madison County. Giving a donation, even a small one, will qualify you for 5 percent off your portrait purchases. Everyone was signed up online, so that qualifies you for an additional 5 percent off.

Showing appreciation

Sunday , April 28, will be a special day to show appreciation to Tib Congleton. If you have a story to tell, we want you to participate.

The celebration will continue at noon with dinner in the fellowship hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Let’s go bowling

Sunday evening, 6 p.m., bring the whole family to Galaxy Bowling Center in Richmond for bowling.

National Day of Prayer

Coming soon is the annual National Day of Prayer service on May 2, 7 p.m., at Flatwoods Christian Church,

The senior choir from Waco Baptist Church will be singing. James Hardin, minister of Union City Baptist Church, will be the speaker.

‘30-Hour Famine’

Community Christian Church Youth Group is sponsoring “30-Hour Famine” to raise money for World Vision Organization, which feeds hungry children around the world. Their goal is to raise $7,000.

The kids fast for 30 hours, collect canned goods and work soup kitchens (while fasting) as well as sleep outside in cardboard boxes. This helps them “get a feel” for what these conditions are like.

The youth group has been able to feed many children the past five years and have even been among the top 10 youth groups participating.

If you would like to make a donation, contact Community Christian Church. The group would like to thank those who already have donated.

Cemetery association meets

Flatwoods Cemetery Association, Inc. met Sunday afternoon, April 21. Among the items discussed was the upcoming Memorial Day week-end voting booth for the 2013-2014 board of directors.

If you would like to nominate someone for the board, or nominate yourself, please give President Donna Williams a call with the name(s) to be added or you may e-mail names to pab50@aol.com. (You’ll need to contact the person you nominate for permission to add their name(s) to the ballot – you already knew that, didn’t you?)

Birthday wishes

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Bonnie Moberly, April 18; Amanda Brown, April 21; Andrea Brown, April 22; Earl Money, Jr., April 26; Morgan Campbell, Andy Dunn and Charles Rupard, April 28; Aaron McDonald, April 29; and Shannon Carl, April 30.

That’s about it for this week – have a great one! (Aunt Barb, our prayers are with you for a speedy and complete recovery – just learned about your hospitalization.)
