Beef cattle meeting is Thursday

RICHMOND — Join us at 6 p.m. Thursday at Blue Grass Stockyards in Richmond for a beef cattle BVD meeting.

Local veterinarian Dr. Leo Gayheart will discuss the causes, testing and management of BVD-PI in your cattle and why it can be so costly to many of our beef operations.

This will be a “learn-by-doing” type meeting as we demonstrate the proper way to collect samples for BVD-PI testing. Testing is easy and can save you significant dollars in medication and lessen the occurrence of re-treatment of sick cattle.

Dr. Beth Johnson, DVM, with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, will be on hand to discuss BVD monitoring at the state level. Bluegrass Stockyards representatives also will share an industry perspective on BVD in our area.

A sponsored meal will be served. Make plans to attend this important meeting.

The Madison County Beef Cattle Association will be grilling burgers and hotdogs for this meeting. So that we do not run out of food, please give me a call at 623-4072 if you plan to attend.

Beekeeping meeting Monday

The Madison County Beekeeper Group will kick off its 2014 meeting series 6 p.m. Monday at the Madison County Extension Office. We have a great program lined up that includes:

A potluck meal will be served. Call me with any questions, 623-4072, and to let us know you will be attending.
