CAIP applications available Feb. 3-14


The County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP), formally known as the Phase I cost-share assistance program will begin on Monday, Feb. 3. Applications for this program will be available from Feb. 3-14, at the Madison County Conservation District, 859-624-1981, Ext. 3.

There are 10 investment areas, which include commercial production of aquaculture; bees and honey; equine; forage; beef and dairy cattle; goats and sheep; horticulture; poultry; swine; and timber, as well as energy efficiency and production; farm infrastructure and water enhancement; marketing; and value-added production.

The program offers a 50 percent cost-share rate on these practices, with a $3,000 maximum for primary investment areas, and a $1,500 maximum for secondary investment areas. Please inquire through the Madison County Conservation District for specifics for each area, 859-624-1981, Ext.3.

New for the 2014 Cost Share program is an educational requirement for each approved applicant. Participation in CAIP requires a minimum of one educational component related to farm management, production, best management practices or marketing. Examples of types of sessions include workshops, seminars, field days, university sanctioned on-line courses, webinars, etc.

· Documentation of attendance is required.

· Cost-share payments shall not be issued to producers before the educational requirement has been met.
