Full Gospel ‛Back to School Bash’ is Aug. 2

RICHMOND — Hello everyone.

I guess everyone is asking, “How much rain did we get?”

It is almost like a competition. The ground and grass has been so dry that we have been desperate for rain.

The cattle have been grazing very little grass. I know the yards have been looking bad, almost burned up, and the business of yard care has almost stopped. For us farmers, grass for the cattle is our livelihood. I am grateful for any rain at this point.

The Full Gospel Tabernacle is planning its “Back to School Bash” for Saturday Aug. 2 from 8 to noon. This event is provided by the youth of the church as well as a great bunch of church members. It shows the youth in action.

The bash is a great opportunity for families who need a little help in purchasing school supplies. The church with its loving members can provide most of those essential items for school. Show up with your children for the bagged-up, age-specific school supplies. The church wants to be able to help their community and those in need.

The children and families won’t go away hungry. Some special ladies will be fixing hot dogs and chili and other goodies. The popcorn machine will be up and running.

It is always a great blessing. We need volunteers to help the families shop at the church. There will be good used clothing as well as new items. The church has been working to have shoes available as well.

The church is also in need of gently used back packs. If anyone would like to donate a back pack, they can just drop it off at the church door or call Carol Harrison at 893-5127 and she will meet you at the church.

We encourage anyone who would like to help work with this wonderful event to show up that Saturday and say, “I want to help.” I will be there, just look for me, and I will find you a job. Your heart will be blessed to watch the kids.

The extension office has received numerous phone calls over the past couple of weeks about large wasps hovering in yards all over the county.
This insect is called the cicada killer, and despite its aggressive name, it is not something to be scared of.

Maintaining a controlled breeding and calving season can be one of the most important management tools for cow-calf producers.
Uniform, heavier and more valuable calves are key reasons to keep the breeding season short.

I often flash back to the days from the mid to late 1930s when I was a paper boy.
There were 10 or 12 of us who rolled out of bed at 5 a.m. every day, jumped on our bicycles and headed downtown to the Glyndon Hotel and picked up our papers for delivery.

Hello readers, it’s a stormy Monday evening as I write this, and I’ve been thanking the Lord all day for the good rain – over an inch in the gauge now, and it looks like more before morning.
