UNION CITY —
Union City Ruritan will host a pancake breakfast Saturday, Feb. 8, from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
Speaking of pancakes, where did they begin? If you search the internet, some say pancakes began in China. Others say Romans first made them with potatoes. Maybe France is where our type of pancake started.
In 1889, the first ready-mix food sold commercially was Aunt Jemima pancake mix.
Possibly, pancakes were made in the time of Old Testament prophets.
An angel woke Elijah and said, “’Arise and eat.’ Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water.” (I Kings 19:5-6)
Could that have been a pancake?
We do not have a good answer for the pancake’s beginnings, but we do know this simple cake can be enjoyed because of the topping. You are invited to try pancakes at the Ruritan on Feb. 8.
Now that school is back in session, Union City Christian Church will have regular sessions of archery and Bible study Wednesday nights.
Belated birthday wishes go out to Lori Oliver, Jan. 13; and Patricia Oliver, Jan. 26.
Birthday wishes this week go to Rachel Fritz and Meghann Hart, Friday; Timothy Parke and Teresa Thomas, Saturday; Jake Duerson and Spence Thomas, Sunday; Francis Lanter and Donna Masters,Tuesday; and Bo Gabbard, next Thursday.
