Hi and Happy Fourth of July!!!
I sure hope the rains hold off until, hmm, maybe Friday. We've been in the Daytona Beach – afternoon showers syndrome again this week, haven’t we? At least we haven’t had to put life-jackets on our potatoes like we’ve had to do in years past. The rain didn’t come in one big “gully-washer” like before!! This appears to be a bumper crop for potatoes; everyone we’ve talked with seems to agree. Apples are loading up the apple trees as well -- time (almost) to make apple butter (yum, yum!)
Everyone said yum-yum on Saturday as they gathered at Granny Leona's residence in honor of great-grandson (Joshua Brandenburg) and soon-to-be great-granddaughter (Kayla Dargavell) with a wedding shower. The yum-yum came from Granny's dee-licious butter cake as only she can make it.
The couple received many nice presents, along with a loaded “money-tree!” Everyone had a great time and send all their best wishes to Josh and Kayla as they begin their life as Mr. and Mrs. later this month. (Thanks to everyone for their presence and gifts, Josh and Kayla.)
If you heard sirens last Sunday evening (a week ago,) it was our Waco Volunteers and the Madison County Fire Department on their way to a structure fire on Fike Road. Due to their quick response, damages were kept to a minimum (one room receiving the most damage, we hear.) Any time there is a structure fire, possible outcomes can be tragic and we are happy no injuries were sustained in this one.
From the desk of Tim Jones, pastor of Flatwoods Christian Church, we have these notes: Sunday, July 21, will be Homecoming for the church. 1 Voice will present a musical concert at 9:45 a.m., followed by Jackie Ward bringing the “Homecoming Message.” Dinner will be held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to: Beth Campbell (July 2); Jessie Masters (July 4); Martin Jones (July 4); Connie Dennis (July 8); Geraldine Covey (July 7, I believe); to Carol Johnson (July 9); to Jean Brown (July 9); and Diane Webb (July 9).
Happy anniversary wishes go out to Jerry and Jody Plummer (July 9); to David and Kim Henderson (July 10); and Tommy and Betty Masters (July 13).
Get well wishes are extended to Gene and Juanita Smith who have had their share of health issues lately. Please keep the couple in your prayers as they are on the road to better health (and we want them to stay that way, right?).
Sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Mattie King who passed away a few days ago. I remember Mattie being the Intermediate Sunday School teacher and enjoyed being in her class whenever I visited her church as a child.
That’s about it for this week -- have a GREAT and SAFE Fourth of July (go USA, USA, USA!!).
