RICHMOND — Help a local resident “get out of jail,” and in turn help men, women and children break the cycle of domestic violence in Madison and surrounding counties.

The third annual Hope’s Wings Jail and Bail is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in the basement community room of Central Bank, 350 W. Main St., Richmond.

Richmond police officers will be picking up the “perps,” who have volunteered to raise at least $500 for the domestic violence prevention program.

Those who wish to donate can call the volunteers and pledge money. Donors also can visit the Hope’s Wings website at www.hopeswings.org and click on the yellow PayPal “donate” button in the bottom, right-hand corner of the homepage.

Contributions via check also can be mailed to Hope’s Wings, PO Box 488, Richmond, KY.

This year’s fundraising goal is $20,000, according to Director Jennifer Lainhart. Last year, $12,000 was raised.

The money will go directly to the shelter for expenses such as food and utility bills, as well as fuel and upkeep for vehicles used to transport shelter residents to appointments and job interviews.
