PAINT LICK —
Good morning to my readers.
It is an absolutely gorgeous Tuesday, this Feb. 12, with sunshine so bright you have to shade with your hand.
Happy anniversary to Doug, my husband of 41 years.
That seems like a lifetime to some ... but after knowing what we’ve been through together, I also know it has passed really fast.
This past Thursday and Friday, The Images of Paint Lick was conducted at Paint Lick Community Arts Center.
This small town came alive with the help and hard work of Mrs. Jane West and Ms. Rickie Collett who put together a knowledgeable exhibit of Paint Lick history.
So many have told me what a fabulous job with such an interesting display where Jane and Rickie proudly told of all the stories and memories shared by the many people who gave of their “imagery” to make this event possible.
Many thanks to all those people who came to share and a “special thanks” to Mr. William Ball, grandson of Bill and Jane West, and also to Rickie Collette for their showing of Paint Lick and the “how to’s” of Flintknapping.
A wonderful lady, too, is Emily Bray. We all owe her a tremendous debt for her dedication in helping with everything she does for the arts center. Thank you, Emily.
And last, but not least, a huge thank you to Hal and Yvonne Davis for their inspiration and hard work in letting the whole of Paint Lick share their lives at the community arts center. We are so proud to have them in our lives.
This Thursday is Valentine’s Day. Every couple and anyone interested in being a part of our community arts center is welcome to share in a very special event being held on Valentine’s evening from 5:30 to 8:30 at the center.
Yvonne and Hal and their helpers will shower us with Valentines ... past and present; treasures from the past; wedding gowns, vintage Valentine cards, old love letters, pictures and more.
To top it off ... a strolling violinist will be on hand for our enjoyment. Yvonne will be on the piano and refreshments are available.
Something extra special ... everyone is invited to have their picture taken in their “surprise garden” ... couples will be the thing.
G&L Grocery is helping to get your local newspaper early. Call them at 925-9000.
Three-Fold-Meats is having a big load of fresh beef, not frozen, in their store this Friday.
Paint Lick’s meat store is not leaving us all too soon, as was planned. I am pleased. I tried the stew beef in a pot of homemade stew and it was delicious with a few potatoes, a jar of my canned carrots, three beef cubes and of course, a small onion.
I only wish we could keep them in the area as that is where I have done all my meat shopping since their arrival.
Call them at 925-2172 and thank Michelle or Faith Ann and Doug Floyd for all they have done here in Paint Lick.
Happy birthday to my big brother Johnny Alexander of Menelaus Road in Berea on Feb. 13. I love you.
Also, to my nephew Freddie Embree and his grandson Trenton Embree; and to grandniece, Adrian Anglin, a happy birthday to the three of you on Feb. 21.
May God bless and I hope to see you all at the Paint Lick Community Arts Center on Valentine’s evening.
