RICHMOND — It’s true!

Every day can be like Valentine’s Day, if you really put your heart into loving and appreciating your partner, family and friends.

Valentine’s Day is special, particularly if you have someone who affectionately remembers you with a box of tasty chocolates and a card with a big, red heart on it.

However, there is a silent symbol, if I may call it that, which we all possess that has the wherewithal to give mankind a sense of comfort and caring every day of the week, all year long.

Yup! It’s the simple, lowly smile that we all take for granted until it is absent.

Think about it for a minute.  Try and recall all the people who generally greet you with a warm, comforting smile on a daily basis.

Now, imagine you having to interact with these same expressionless people at your workplace, where you socialize and at home.

It doesn’t sound very enjoyable, huh?

I’m certainly not bashing the wonderful tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day.  Give me all the flowers, candy and gifts that you want – just don’t forget the importance of bestowing a humble smile on people around you at every opportunity.

On March 16, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., the churches of Tates Creek Association will present a “Baby Boot Camp” for expectant teens at the Telford Community Center – Richmond YMCA.

The camp will offer educational training on what to expect when the baby arrives, what to do when the baby is sick and education on the basics of how to care for a baby and yourself.

A continental breakfast and a hot lunch will be provided. There will be door prizes and a big surprise at the end of the day for each participating girl.

There will be no charge for this day of education, but pre-registration is required.

Forms for registration will be made available at the YMCA, in each school resource center and at the public library.

For additional details, you may call Marilyn at 859-948-2357 or Dellena at 589-248-5396.

If you are an expectant, young teen, this day of training was designed especially to help you better understand your situation. You will be met with Christian love and concern. Be certain to pre-register and come out for this special day of training.

I would like to wish a happy belated anniversary to Carrie and Ephraim McCurt. This couple’s special day was Monday, Feb. 11.

I pray happy birthday blessings to Shirley Ellis, Feb. 12; Tommy Brights, Feb. 13; and Frank James, Jr. Feb 14.

The old adage for the week is as follows: “When you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.”

Call me at 527-0411 or e-mail me at karenquinn@roadrunner.com with church or community news and your special days and events.

Until next week, may God bless you and yours.
