UNION CITY —
The first Ruritan meeting of the year will be Monday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.
Officers for the new year are: Jerry Sowers, president; Marty Sewell, vice president; Robert D. Eades, secretary; and Robert Murphy, treasurer.
New member of the board of directors added this year is Jimmy Sewell. Marty Sewell is also Ruritan Zone Governor for central Kentucky.
Business for the first meeting will include scheduling for the new year and collection of dues. The Union City club is a men’s club and invites all men of the community to participate.
A major function of Union City Ruritan is sponsoring the Union City Volunteer Fire Department. Many club members are members of the fire department.
Ruritan’s purpose is to create a better understanding among people and, through volunteer community service, make America’s communities better places in which to live and work.
The slogan of Ruritan is “Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service.”
The first Ruritan Club was chartered May 21, 1928, in Holland, Va. Since that first club, Ruritan has grown throughout the United States of America, and, in doing so, has become “America’s Leading Community Service Organization.”
