Clothing Closet open this Saturday

KIRKSVILLE — Hello everyone. This weekend will be a little less busy with events at the churches and the community center, however we still have the Clothing Closet open this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. They want to see people in need stop by. That is their goal to help others.

Susie will not be having their fish fry till May 31. This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. So mark your calendar for next Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Enjoy your family this weekend.

I said this weekend Kirksville would not be as busy, that is with church events. However, with all the rain, hay cutting is getting behind. If the weather looks like the rain chances are to be just a chance or scattered, I suspect the farmers will be busy mowing their hay. I need my hay cut, so Dad and Don you better get ready.

The Kirksville Baptist Church shared some of their Church’s history with me. Their anniversary is coming up on the 26th. The church was constituted in 1938 with 33 members.

Over the years many events happen to get them where they are today. In 1905 the original old red brick church building was unsafe for use and closed. This caused all the four denominations to separate and begin other churches. This included Mt. Pleasant Baptist which still exists today.

Then in 1911 land was purchased and paid in full. Sunday School rooms were dedicated in 1938. Their present sanctuary and fellowship hall were completed on Easter Sunday 2005. Just think more building is still going on today.

Congratulations, Kirksville Baptist on all the accomplishments that you have made over the years. Perseverance pays off. Just think what would have happen back in 1905 with the condemning of the old building if nothing had been done.
