VBS still going strong

Hi!
After the soaking rain over the weekend —it was just a slow, steady “soaker,” wasn’t it? — the weather of late has been just beautiful! Too bad the rain couldn’t have waited just a few days for the 4th of July celebrations to be over. Oh well, the “boomers” managed to go off anyway! With the loud booms of the Lake Reba fireworks, folks around here could hear explosions of firecrackers and “grounded” fireworks, including those attending the Merl Lakes annual 4th of July get-together on College Hill Road.
Geraldine Covey was treated to a surprise birthday party July 4 at her favorite place in the world (outside of Waco, of course), Cave Run Lake. As usual, she traveled to Cave Run with son Dean and daughter-in-law Trish, to enjoy the holiday weekend. While Dean entertained Mom with a boat ride on Saturday, Trish stayed at the campground preparing food and getting everything ready for the surprise party when the two arrived back from their “boating” outing.
Upon arriving back at their camp site, Geraldine was indeed surprised that a party was afoot — just for her. Friends arrived, snacks (including birthday cake and homemade ice cream) were spread and everyone settled into party mode! Everyone had a great time, in spite of the wet weather! Happy Birthday, Geraldine!
Other birthdays? Yep! Martin Jones turned another year older on July 4; Carol Johnson and Jean Brown will add another candle to their birthday cake today, July 9.
Vacation Bible schools are still going strong — Waco Pentecostal Church is having theirs this week and, coming up, College Hill UMC Vacation Bible School will be conducted July 27-31 from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Water night will be on Thursday evening. The program and cookout will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday night. All youth from ages preschool to teens are invited. Please call 369-3916 or 369-3174 if you need transportation.
Also, the annual Ice Cream Social at College Hill UMC will be on Saturday, August 15, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided. Tickets are $3 for adults and $1.50 for children.
That’s about it for this week. Enjoy the weather and have a great one!
