Recycling bins now available

Hello readers, what a change! The humidity is gone and while we still have a very warm wind out there this Monday evening of June 29. It also is pleasant to think I might feel like working more in the garden this week.

These past few humid days have left everyone drained of energy and I didn’t see anyone out working like they usually do, especially when the garden needs work. Now, you take these farmers, even after a slow morning at Rick’s Diner, they still have to get out there in that hot sun. The many days of rain have kept a lot of farmers away from their tasks of putting up hay for the stock this winter, so there was some work going on around Paint Lick.

I have just finished tearing down a few huge boxes for our recycling bins in behind First Southern Bank. This recycling venture is gaining ground more all the time and I would like to remind everyone, if you feel the need and want to “do your part for a cleaner world,” please take advantage of the large tubs to store your plastics, glass, aluminum, corrugated cardboard and newspapers. It will be picked up by Garrard County Solid Waste every two weeks.

The Annual Camp Meeting at The Gospel Barn began Tuesday morning and will run through Friday night with morning and evening services. Everyone is welcome.

My sister Joyce and I took time to go and see our sister Emma on Sunday. It was a good visit and we had the ever popular junk food ... fried bologna sandwiches with mustard, onions and a big red ripe tomato. We did use 100-percent whole wheat bread! It will be so very good to have our very first ripe tomato from our little garden. Lydia, we all miss you here in Kentucky! When are you coming home?

Philip and Kristin Todd and their daughters Olivia, 7, and Helena, 4, of Shawnee, Okla., are enjoying their visit with Philip’s mom and dad, John and Loraine Todd of Frog Branch. Philip and his family are in Kentucky and enjoying their vacation time while attending his college reunion at Asbury, where he was a graduate before going on to Oklahoma State. Olivia and Helena will be visiting The Friends of Paint Lick on Tuesday with their grandmother Loraine. I think they will love our library. Welcome to Paint Lick, Philip and Kristin and Olivia and Helena.

Kathy Hume has asked that I tell everyone about her huge yard sale going on this Friday and Saturday. It will begin by 8 a.m. Jeff and Kathy are located across the street from Ronald and Marilyn Rogers on Richmond Road. Kathy tells me she had “tons of everything” and it should be a great day.

This Thursday will be the last day for the Garrard County Library’s Summer Reading Program at Paint Lick Christian Church. I plan on helping out that day and making pizza with all the toppings. The program will conclude on July 15. You may call the library at 1-859-792-3424 with any questions.

This weekend should be a time of family gatherings and good times with lots of good food cooking on the grill. I pray that everyone will drive safe so we may keep the holiday just as it was meant to be.

Happy birthday to Earl and Nanny Parker of Noe Road on July 11 and July 14. Stay safe and May God bless.
