  • Dylan Jones: Looking Toward The Future
Like most people his age, 16-year-old Dylan Jones is looking to the future and, from the looks of things so far, it’s a bright one.

  • Veterans have long-awaited reunion
If you drove through Union City since Sunday evening, you will notice a pile of rubble where the old Masonic Lodge has stood for many years. It was torn down Sunday evening and now there are trucks and dumpsters on site for clean up. The space will be used for parking at the Ruritan Building and other community activities.

  • Fall colors make a beautiful November
Hello everyone. What a wonderful start to the first week of November in 2009. It is a bright and sunny Monday afternoon with no clouds to say we might get a shower. It has been a rainy end to the summer season and now into the fall of the year, I see indescribable colors all along our creeks and up into the hillsides with the sun holding onto the moment as all the beauty of nature catches my eye.

  • Looking forward to sunny Saturday
Hi! Did you survive Halloween? There didn’t appear to be as many trick-or-treaters as in years past. I think most youngsters were taking advantage of the trunk-or-treats and parties offered by area churches.
Although it was a tad on the chilly side, it wasn’t a bad night for the superheroes and witches. Except for the chilly evenings and early mornings, the warm, sunny days this week has November getting off to a great start. This weekend’s forecast looks fantastic, still sunny and hitting close to 70s!

  • Benefit singing Saturday night
Hello everyone. Saturday night is the benefit singing for Vicky Grant Brumett, who is facing multiple eye surgeries. She is going blind. The Community Center is hosting a chili supper starting at 5:30 p.m. The singing starts at 7 p.m. with the Proof of Grace singers from the Full Gospel Tabernacle. There also will be an auction at 8:30 p.m. and the auctioneer will be Ron Lamb. All the proceeds will go to Vicky for her medical bills. If you would like to give donations for the auction please call Carolyn Tarte at 200-6552.

  • Altrusa Club chili supper planned
    Hello from Baldwin.
How is everyone’s week going? I hope that everyone is having a great one. How do you like this cool weather that we are having? I wish it was a little warmer, but I guess it is the time of year for it to be cooler, isn’t it?
Did you have a good Halloween? I had 20 trick-or-treaters Saturday night. I just love seeing what they come dressed as. I do hope that everyone had a happy and safe Halloween.

  • Pantry Pests
Have you ever opened your pantry door only to be surprised by tiny moths or beetles crawling on your shelves? This is actually a pretty common problem. You are infested with a stored product pest. Common symptoms of this problem include very small beetles crawling on countertops, moths flying across the room or caterpillars crawling on walls or ceilings.

  • Top of the Crop Replacement Heifer Sale this Saturday
The Central Kentucky “Top of the Crop” Replacement Heifer Sale is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Grass Stockyards of Richmond, L.L.C.
This promises to be an excellent sale, offering over 100 quality replacement heifers for your herd.

  • Some Sports Stories
Back in my high school days (1943-47), Bob Ackman was both basketball and baseball coach at Madison High. He was very successful at both. In basketball, the Purples went to the state tournament three out of four years. In 1944, the team placed third in the state. These teams have been written up in this column several times.
