Driver, but no children hurt as pickup slides into school bus

Register staff report

RICHMOND —  A wet road was probably to blame when a pickup truck driven by Brack Morgan, 28, slid out of control and collided head-on into a Madison County school bus at about 3:24 p.m. Friday, according to Deputy Willard Readon of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Two children riding the bus on KY 21 near Paint Lick appeared to be uninjured, but the bus driver, Ruth Culton, 54, as well as Morgan and his juvenile passenger in the pickup were transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Readon said.

An aide on the school bus, Kathie Rhodes, 40 was checked out at St. Joseph Berea hospital and appeared to be uninjured, School Superintendent Tommy Floyd said.

The children were checked by medical personnel at the scene and school officials will follow up with their families on Saturday and Sunday, Floyd said.

“We've very fortunate, and I thank God the injuries don't appear to be too serious,” he said. “It's a very precious cargo we carry every day in our school buses and safety is our first priority.”
