Good Morning America to host Friday segment on EKU campus

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — This Friday morning, the Eastern Kentucky University campus will be the site of a segment on the popular ABC television show Good Morning America.

The segment, to be filmed at Powell Plaza near the water fountain, will pay homage to the start of Sam Champion’s career. Champion, a 1983 EKU graduate from Paducah with a degree in broadcasting, works as GMA’s weather anchor. Since joining the program, he has reported on weather-related stories from across the world.

EKU Director of Public Relations Marc Whitt said the segment was part of a larger series looking at the collegiate backgrounds of all the GMA anchors.

Whitt said the university is anticipating about 200 EKU students to be present in the plaza when the segment is filmed.
