Special to the Register
Tickets are now on sale for the Eastern Kentucky University Theatre’s production of “The Contrast” by Royall Tyler.
The play will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Gifford Theatre of the Campbell Building.
Written in 1787, “The Contrast” is the first professionally produced comedy by an American-born playwright.
Virtuous Maria is promised to the affected Mr. Dimple. She happens to meet young Col. Manly, fresh from fighting in the Revolutionary War, and she knows where her heart truly lies.
In the satiric tradition of Restoration comedy of manners, “The Contrast” celebrates the contrast between American honesty and simplicity and the excesses of European affectation.
Tickets are available at the Gifford Theatre Box Office, open noon to 4 p.m. weekdays and before performances from 7 to 7:50 p.m. (1-1:50 p.m. for Sunday matinee). Student and senior citizen tickets are $5 and adult tickets, $6 (payment by check or cash only).
