Model Lab School hosts its first-ever Grandparents/Grandfriends Day

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — Grandparents and grand friends flocked to Model Lab Elementary Friday for the first annual Grandparents and Grandfriends Day.

“We have many grandparents who come to open house and volunteer for us,” said Mark Cornette, the school’s assistant director. “This is the first time we have invited everyone for lunch and to visit during the school day.”

Grandparents enjoyed musical performances, joined the classes for school lunch and observed classes or participated in recess. Grades Pre-K through fifth were included.

A shuttle service was provided from parking at the EKU Center for the Arts, and the Model Parent Organization served dessert in the library.

An estimated 400 grandparents and grand friends shared the day as special guests of the students.

In addition to traveling from all over Kentucky, grandparents and grandfriends also hailed from Missouri, California, Tennessee, Ohio and West Virginia.
