Register Staff Report

BEREA — Charles R. “Chuck” Cash Jr., associate principal of Madison Southern High School since July 2007, will become the school’s principal Dec. 2.

Madison County Schools announced Cash’s selection Friday by the MSHS site-based decision making council. He replaces David Gilliam who was named the school district’s chief academic officer in August.

District Assessment Coordinator Donna Caldwell has served as interim principal since Gilliam left MSHS.

“Madison County Schools is extremely excited to have Mr. Cash in this leadership role at Madison Southern,” said Superintendent Elmer Thomas. “He has an abundance of education and leadership experience, much of that in our district, that will continue to benefit our students, staff and community.”

Cash began working for Madison County Schools in December 2003 as a science and social studies teacher at Foley Middle School. While at Foley, Cash coached the girls softball and basketball teams.

He served a year as an assistant principal at Madison Southern, starting in July 2006, and then was named associate principal.

Cash is Conference Planning Committee chair for the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, a member of the Assessment Team for the Kentucky Center for School Safety and a member of the Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals.

He was named the KCSS and KYASRO Administrator of the Year in 2010. He received the Army Civilian Merit Award in 1993.
