  • Batteries reported stolen from car lot

    The owner of East Main Auto Sales reported Monday that batteries had been stolen from seven vehicles on his lot overnight. Three other batteries belonging to him also were stolen from vehicles at Bedliners on South Estill Avenue, the Richmond police report stated. Estimated loss is $1,200.

  • Witness says Marcum threatened to kill

    Mariah Smith took the witness stand Tuesday afternoon to tell the jury in the trial of Christina Marcum about an April 2011 incident.
    Smith, who described herself as a former friend of Marcum’s, said she had known the defendant since she was 12 and always had a good relationship with her. For most of their lives, Marcum was “like a sister,” she testified.
    However, that began to change after murder victim Angela Frazier Singleton went missing Jan. 16, 2011.

    A woman was charged Friday with felony wanton endangerment and driving under the influence (second offense) following a motor vehicle collision on Richmond Road in Berea.

  • Minor accident leads to drug-trafficking arrest

    A North Carolina man was charged with trafficking cocaine after Richmond police responded Sunday to a minor traffic accident on East Main Street.
    Calvin S. Brooks, 28, also was charged with tampering with physical evidence and first-degree promoting contraband.

    A Richmond man has been charged with trying to pass checks that had been stolen during the recent burglary of a Mount Rushmore Drive home.
    Jeremiah J. Bailey, 31, of Danielle Court faces charges of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and receiving stolen property (under $500).

  • Former MCHS secretary convicted of sex crimes involving teen is released

    A former Madison Central High School secretary convicted in 2011 of sex crimes involving a 15-year-old male student has been released from prison.
    Lynda K. Chase, 40, received a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to third-degree rape and four counts of third-degree sodomy.

    After a two-hour delay Friday morning, the prosecution in Christina Marcum’s murder trial resumed its case about 11 a.m. by playing a recorded conversation between Marcum and Jason Singleton.
    He has already pleaded guilty to complicity in the 2011 murder of his wife, Angela Frazier Singleton, and is serving a 30-year sentence.
