Police uncover marijuana trafficking while investigating robbery report

RICHMOND — An unsubstantiated robbery report last month led police to a storage unit that contained 10 pounds of marijuana and numerous stolen tools, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

Amy S. Mullins, 32, Dixie Plaza, was charged Monday with trafficking in marijuana (over 5 pounds), receiving stolen property (under $10,000) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mullins also was charged with several misdemeanors related to items found in her vehicle after a traffic stop.

Police went to Mullins’ residence Jan. 27 to investigate a reported robbery, Brock said in a news release. The report was unsubstantiated, but while they were at the home, officers found a small amount of marijuana and several plastic bags containing marijuana residue, according to the release.

During the investigation, officers “developed further information indicating that Mullins was involved in drug trafficking,” Brock said.

On Thursday, RPD officers executed a search warrant on a self-storage unit maintained by Mullins on Big Hill Avenue. The search produced 10 pounds of marijuana, a .38 caliber handgun and numerous hand and power tools valued at $4,000.

The tools had been reported stolen in 2012 to the Kentucky State Police, Brock said.

Police recovered $2,300 in cash Monday that Mullins had “stored at a location that will remain undisclosed,” Brock said.

Later that day, a patrol officer stopped a vehicle driven by Mullins after she ran a red light at East Main and South First streets, according to the release.

The officer reported finding two partially burned marijuana joints in the vehicle as well as eight prescription Ibuprofen pills and rolling papers. She was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of a legend drug.

Mullins was taken to the police department, and the RPD charged her with drug trafficking and receiving stolen property. She was then taken to the Madison County Detention Center.

Antique bed stolen from Moberly Avenue home

The owner of an unoccupied dwelling on Moberly Avenue reported Sunday that the home had been burglarized during the prior four days, and a white brass king-size bed, worth $4,000, was stolen. There were no signs of forced entry, according to the RPD.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.
