Thefts, burglaries reported in Berea

BEREA — Berea police are investigating these crimes reported from Nov. 26 through Sunday.


• A resident in the 200 block of Ellipse Street reported that several items were taken from her apartment. She said she left her apartment for several days while some renovations were completed. When she returned, she noticed some items were missing. Estimated loss: $2,799.

• A resident in the 200 block of Glades Road reported that several items were taken from inside the home. Estimated loss: $950.

• Officers were called to Econo Lodge in reference to a theft. The victim stated he had just checked out and left the hotel when he realized that he left his laptop computer in his room. He went back to the hotel, but his computer was gone. Estimated loss: $500.

Nov. 27

• Officers were called to Country Inn and Suites in reference to a theft. The victim reported that a moving van was stolen from the parking lot during the night. The vehicle was found later in the day by Kentucky State Police in Clay County. The contents had been removed, and the vehicle had been burned. Estimated loss is $80,979.

Nov. 26

• Officers were called to Comfort Inn in reference to a theft. Employees stated that several items were stolen from an outbuilding. Estimated loss: $1,630.

Misdemeanor arrests

Berea police made the following misdemeanor arrests from Thursday through Monday:

• Two people for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (first offense)

• One person for theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting merchandise worth $127 from Walmart

• One person for theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting merchandise worth $46 from Walmart

• One person for theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting merchandise worth $8 from Walmart

• One person for third-degree criminal trespass.

    Richmond Police on Friday charged Robert Abney, 30, of Moberly Avenue, in connection with a May 30 explosion that injured Abney and damaged a neighbor’s home.
    Officers were dispatched May 30 to a residence in the 500 block of Moberly Avenue to investigate the report of an explosion.
    They found the remains of a plastic bottle bomb near a residence adjoining Moberly’s, according to an RPD news release. A wall of the occupied home was smoldering and grass was burned in the area, it added.

    A Richmond woman already jailed on another charge was served with a drug trafficking warrant Thursday.

  • Mother pleads guilty to allowing child rape

    Deanna Lawson, charged with 20 counts of complicity in the rape and sodomy of a minor, pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court on Wednesday.
    Between October 2011 and September 2012, Eric Kelley had sexual relations with Lawson’s two daughters, according to court documents.
    She was charged with complicity after police said they learned Lawson knew of the crimes but didn’t try to stop them or alert authorities.

  • No extra jail time for parents on prostitution charge

    Anthony and Kathy Hart, two Madison County residents who pleaded guilty May 21 to prostituting their daughters, won’t be seeing any extra time in jail.
    Both parents, who served time in jail while their charges were pending, were sentenced to probation Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.

  • RPD arrests three on drug charges

    A couple is facing several charges after police said they sold drugs to an undercover officer late last year.
    In December 2013, the Richmond Police Narcotics Unit purchased a quantity of suboxone strips from Ryan Anderson, 30, and Chastity L. King, 28, on two occasions during a covert investigation, according to an RPD news release.
