Man charged with stalking, sex crimes against girl

RICHMOND — A Maryland man has been charged with stalking and several sex crimes after he used social media to maintain contact with a 13-year-old Richmond child for nearly a year, according to Richmond police.

Andrew R. Parrish, 22, of Manchester, Md., initially was charged March 17 with second-degree stalking, prohibited use of an electronic communications system to procure a minor to commit a sexual offense and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

He was additionally charged Monday with first-degree sexual abuse and use of a minor under 16 in a sex performance.

The RPD initiated the investigation Nov. 14 after receiving a complaint from the girl’s parents. Parrish is alleged to have started contacting her Jan. 29, 2013, through Facebook, the report stated.

The man told the teen that he was 16, and he began using his cell phone to send her nude photographs of himself, the RPD stated. He also tried to induce her to send similar pictures to him.

The parents were unaware of the photos, and in May 2013, Parrish came from his home in Maryland to visit the girl and her family, the report stated.

Her parents discovered he was an adult, and told him to leave and also to not have any more contact with the teen, according to the RPD.

However, police allege that Parrish continued to contact the girl at various events. He hacked into her Facebook page to monitor her activities and message her, according to the report.

When the teen tried to resist his advances, he allegedly threatened to cause serious physical injury or death to her and her family, the report added.

Police obtained an arrest warrant Nov. 15 for Parrish on the original charges but discovered he had returned to Maryland shortly before the warrant was issued. However, he was arrested March 17 in Maryland and returned to Madison County where he was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center. He remained at the jailed Tuesday afternoon.
