MSO: Intoxicated man let young child drive car

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — A Madison County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a man on misdemeanor charges Monday after she saw a car driven by a young child go by her house.

Off-duty Deputy Michelle Albertson was at her home at 7:30 p.m. when she saw a 2001 red and tan Suzuki drive by, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

Albertson noticed the Suzuki was being driven by a small child “who could barely see over the steering wheel,” the release stated.

Albertson got in her cruiser and found the vehicle parked in a driveway in the 100 block of Frances Drive in Richmond. An adult passenger in the Suzuki, 41-year-old Robert Wayne Buckner, was intoxicated, Albertson reported.

Buckner was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment and endangerment. He was taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
