Man charged in 2008 death of Teakwood Drive woman

RICHMOND — Richmond police have charged a man with murder in the 2008 death of 78-year-old Joanne Tribble, and an arrest citation states that a family member admitted that he committed the crime when he was 17 years old.

The Madison County Detention Center’s website shows that William Cody Boyd Tribble, 22, of Berea, was booked into the Madison County Detention Center early Wednesday morning on a murder charge.

However, police have not released the name of the murder suspect because he was a 17-year-old juvenile at the time of the alleged murder, Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock said in a news release.

The suspect police has in custody currently is being charged as a juvenile, but an upcoming court hearing will determine if the man will be tried as an adult, according to Brock.

Lexington television news channel WLEX 18 provided a copy of William’s arrest citation to the Register, which they say was provided to them by the Madison County Detention Center. The citation states “During the interview William ‘Cody’ Tribble admitted to assaulting Joanne Tribble at 107 Teakwood Dr. Richmond, Ky. with a weapon which resulted in her death.”

Both police and family court officials said all records pertaining to the case are supposed to remain confidential based on the case’s juvenile status.

Joanne Tribble was found at 1:37 a.m. July 20, 2008, on the floor of her garage suffering from a head wound, according to Brock.

“At first glance, it was thought that Tribble had fallen,” he said. “But, medical personnel quickly determined that her injuries were not consistent with a fall. Tribble was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she died later in the day as a result of the injury.”

The man police have charged was considered a suspect early in the investigation, and detectives have continued to investigate the case, Brock said.

Tribble’s son, Eddie Tribble of Richmond, hired a private investigator in 2010 and also offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

A detention center booking official said no bond has been set for Tribble because of the juvenile status of his case.
