According to the release, on Aug. 15 about 2:45 a.m. a complainant reported to police she had been robbed after stopping at the Redi Mart on Big Hill Avenue after getting off work. Seeing the store was closed, the complainant returned to her vehicle, where she was approached by a male subject. The male offered to direct her to another store, and when she declined he asked for a ride to Keri Ann Drive, which she agreed to, the release stated.
Upon arriving at Keri Ann Drive, the man asked for a small amount of money. When the woman refused to give him any money, he grabbed her purse. During the ensuing struggle, the man bit the complainant on the right shoulder and took her purse, fleeing the scene. The woman then drove home and called the police, the release stated.
In addition to the bite, the woman suffered a cut to a finger and scratches on her abdomen during the struggle. The report stated her stolen purse contained $200 cash.
Officers identified Simmons as a suspect, and he was located at a residence in the 700 block of Cimarron Road and taken into custody without incident, the release stated. While searching Simmons, officers found a baggie of marijuana.
Simmons was lodged in the detention center, where he remained Thursday afternoon, according to the jail’s online database.
A resident in the 200 block of Keystone Drive reported Thursday her apartment had been broken into during the previous day and a number of items were stolen. Entry was gained through a bedroom window. Items missing: an unknown brand carpet shampoo cleaner, an unknown brand DVD player and a Men in Black II DVD. Estimated loss: $330.
A complainant reported Monday that the hood of a maroon 1968 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS had been stolen during the morning hours. The hood was described as a maroon JEGS hood with reverse scoop. Estimated loss: $500.
