Third man charged in car-wash robbery

RICHMOND — Richmond Police have charged a third man in connection with an early morning June 17 robbery that led to a car chase and injury crash.

Also, the amount of money taken from the victim at a Red House Road car wash was two and a half times the amount contained in earlier police news releases.

The new information was released Wednesday by RPD Chief Larry Brock.

Justin A. Richardson, 25, Sycamore Drive, was charged Tuesday with first-degree armed robbery and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

The investigating officer identified Richardson as a suspect June 20 and obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to Brock.

Richardson was located in the 2100 block of Lexington Road and taken to the Madison County Detention Center, where he remained Wednesday afternoon, according to the jail’s online records.

The victim told police a man wearing a ski mask approached him at 12:35 a.m. June 17 at the Miller’s Landing Car Wash, brandished a handgun and a hammer and demanded money.

The victim surrendered $1,250 in cash, and the suspect got into a waiting car that drove away. Previously, police said $500 was taken.

The victim chased the car and its three occupants, reporting that his car was the target of gunshots and a thrown hammer. The chase ended when the victim’s vehicle collided with a third vehicle.

The third vehicle’s driver suffered neck and back injuries and was transported to the UK Medical Center for treatment, according to the police report.

Around 8 a.m. June 17, officers located the suspect vehicle in the 200 block of South Porter Drive and identified Dylan White, 19, as the driver during the robbery and chase, according to the police chief. After he was interviewed at the police station, White was charged with complicity to first-degree robbery.

On June 19, police identified, Aaron Folden, 26, of South Porter Drive as a second suspect in the robbery. He too was picked up and interviewed at the police station, then charged with complicity to first-degree robbery.

All three suspects remained in the detention center Wednesday evening, according to the jail’s online records.
