Man charged with damaging apartment

RICHMOND — A man who was allowed to stay at a Woods Trail apartment by a relative was charged Saturday with first-degree criminal mischief.

Patrick A. Hamner, 31, no permanent address, was arrested after the apartment resident met with police and accused Hamner of causing significant damage to her home, according to the RPD report.

The woman, who was a relative of Hamner, said she had allowed him to stay there while she was away. When she returned, she discovered numerous holes in the wall; toilets broken and ripped from the wall; windows and doors broken; and televisions, large fish tanks, and items of furniture were damaged or destroyed. The damage was of such degree to render the residence uninhabitable, the report stated.

The estimated damage is well in excess of $1,000.

Hamner was arrested at the scene and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.

Stolen car recovered

A resident in the 200 block of Calumet Drive reported at 7:10 a.m. Sunday that his unlocked 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, worth $3,000, had been stolen during the night. The keys were left in the vehicle.  Within an hour of taking the theft report, the investigating officer found the vehicle abandoned in the rear parking lot of the nearby ABC Learning Center on Churchill Drive. Nothing was missing from the vehicle and it was undamaged. It was returned to the owner.
