Man arrested in connection to trailer thefts

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — Sheriff's deputies charged Michael Workman, 23, of Kristen Drive, with two counts of theft by unlawful taking Thursday in connection with a series of trailer thefts from as far back as May 1, according to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff's Department.

After a representative from Battlefield Estates reported a trailer had been stolen from the property on Tuesday, a security tape was provided to the sheriff's department as evidence.  Using the tape, Sheriff's Detective Derek Thomas identified Workman as a suspect in the theft.

Thursday the Sheriff's office, with assistance from the Richmond Police Department, took Workman into custody at his home without incident.

According to the release, Workman has been “very cooperative” and is working with Thomas, providing information and identifying trailer thefts spanning Madison, Fayette and Scott counties.

Workman was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, where he remained as of Thursday night. Additional charges have been filed against him by Fayette and Scott counties, and more charges may be pending, the release stated.

According to the release, Thomas requested anyone within the three counties who has had a trailer stolen contact their local authorities.
