Man charged in connection with Virginia Avenue house fires

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — Mark Randall Bush, 34, of Virginia Avenue, was charged Wednesday in connection with two arson incidents reported earlier this week, according to a news release from the Richmond Police Department.

The first fire at 102 Virginia Avenue was reported at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to RFD Chief Buzzy Campbell. That fire destroyed most of the rear of the building.

Firefighters responded to the second fire at 2 a.m. Wednesday. The second fire destroyed the front part of the house.

“The house is a total loss at this point,” Campbell said.

During a follow-up investigation, detectives identified Bush as a suspect in both fires. The RPD did not provide additional information about Bush’s connection to the suspected arson incidents.

Bush was interviewed at the police station after which he was charged with two counts of second-degree arson, a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

Bush was taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
