Facebook tips nab suspects in robbery, assault

RICHMOND — A woman who taunted the Richmond police after her picture was posted on the agency’s Facebook page was arrested Tuesday and charged with robbery.

The RPD posted a picture Tuesday taken from a Walmart surveillance video of a woman shoving a store employee aside and fleeing with $117 in stolen merchandise Monday.

The woman was identified at Christina L. Bratcher, 26, McDaniel Avenue, according to an RPD news release.

Bratcher then posted remarks on the RPD’s Facebook page, taunting and swearing at the police and people who had commented on the photo.

Later Tuesday evening, Bratcher was found on South Killarney Lane and arrested by narcotics detectives.

In addition to the second-degree robbery charge, Bratcher also was charged with two counts of trafficking in a simulated substance.

The trafficking charges stem from a covert RPD Narcotics Unit investigation that was conducted in May and June. A substance purported to be heroin was purchased from Bratcher, according to the release, but it was later determined that the substance was not heroin.

One man charged in July 7 assault

Richmond police have arrested one man in connection with an attack earlier this month outside Merrick Shell.

Danthony Chambers, 21, of Berea, was charged with second-degree assault.

Surveillance photos and information about the assault was posted earlier this week on the RPD Facebook page, and Chambers was identified as a possible suspect a short time later, according to an RPD new release.

At 1:16 a.m. July 7, an officer was sent to Merrick Shell, 2048 Merrick Drive, to investigate a reported assault.

Upon arrival, officers found a male on the ground unconscious and suffering from a laceration to the back of his head. The officers determined that the victim exited Merrick Shell and became involved in a verbal altercation with two men in a nearby vehicle.

One of the men got out of the vehicle and began assaulting the victim before being joined by a second man who also began assaulting the victim.

Eventually the victim was punched in the face and knocked unconscious, at which time the two suspects fled in the awaiting vehicle. The victim was taken to Baptist Health-Richmond and received nine staples to close the laceration to the back of his head.

After he was taken into custody, two bench warrants also were served on Chambers. One was from Madison Circuit Court on a probation violation charge in connection with a conviction for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, and the other was from Madison District Court on a charge of failure to appear.
