Woman charged with hindering, resisting arrest

RICHMOND — Richmond police on Tuesday charged Erica R. Gabbard, 21, of North Madison Avenue, with interfering with the arrest of Bobby D. Samples, 25, of Evansdale Avenue, on the strength of a parole violation warrant.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., an officer observed Samples exit a vehicle and enter Gabbard’s apartment on North Madison Avenue, according to a police department news release.

Upon conducting a check, the officer found that Samples’ driver’s license was suspended and that there existed a parole violation warrant for his arrest. Officers then proceeded to the apartment where they were greeted by Gabbard who informed officers that Samples was not at the apartment, the release stated.

An officer informed Gabbard she could be charged with harboring a fugitive, at which time she attempted to close the door. The officers then entered the apartment to detain Gabbard, and she resisted the attempts of officers to take her into custody, the release stated.

Gabbard kicked one of the officers several times and damaged a Taser he was attempting to deploy.  She was ultimately brought under control and taken into custody without injury, according to the police report.

Samples was found hiding in a bathroom and taken into custody, as the police previously had reported.

Gabbard was charged with: Second-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and second degree criminal mischief.
