Police charge man with check thefts, serve numerous warrants

RICHMOND — Thefts/burglaries

Tuesday

• A patron of Save-A-Lot reported that her purse had been stolen from her parked and unlocked vehicle while she was inside the store during the early evening. The large multicolored purse contained a white Galaxy S3 cellular telephone in a multicolored owl phone case, an e-cigarette case with accoutrements, $45 in cash, makeup, a credit card and several personal identification documents. Estimated loss: $918.

Monday

•  A guest at the Country Hearth Inn, 230 Eastern Bypass, reported that a black PlayStation 3 gaming system with several games had been stolen from her room during the early morning. The victim was out of the room briefly, leaving it unlocked. Estimated loss: $250.

• A resident in the 200 block of Aqueduct Drive reported that his residence had been broken into during the day, and a number of items were stolen. Entry was gained by forcing open the front door. Reported missing were: a Springfield .40 caliber pistol, model XD; a Toshiba 40-inch television; a Sony PlayStation 3 with 11 video games; and a Sony Blu-ray player. Estimated loss: $2,800.

Sunday

• A resident in the 200 block of Evansdale Avenue reported that four vehicle rims and tires had been stolen from the bed of his pickup truck during the overnight hours. Reported stolen were:  Mamba 17-inch rims, chrome with black spokes, with Courser MT tires mounted. Estimated loss: $3,180.

    Richmond Police on Friday charged Robert Abney, 30, of Moberly Avenue, in connection with a May 30 explosion that injured Abney and damaged a neighbor’s home.
    Officers were dispatched May 30 to a residence in the 500 block of Moberly Avenue to investigate the report of an explosion.
    They found the remains of a plastic bottle bomb near a residence adjoining Moberly’s, according to an RPD news release. A wall of the occupied home was smoldering and grass was burned in the area, it added.

  • Mother pleads guilty to allowing child rape

    Deanna Lawson, charged with 20 counts of complicity in the rape and sodomy of a minor, pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court on Wednesday.
    Between October 2011 and September 2012, Eric Kelley had sexual relations with Lawson’s two daughters, according to court documents.
    She was charged with complicity after police said they learned Lawson knew of the crimes but didn’t try to stop them or alert authorities.

  • No extra jail time for parents on prostitution charge

    Anthony and Kathy Hart, two Madison County residents who pleaded guilty May 21 to prostituting their daughters, won’t be seeing any extra time in jail.
    Both parents, who served time in jail while their charges were pending, were sentenced to probation Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.
