Two arrested in suspected drug deal

RICHMOND — Dustin Prather, 30, of Walnut Meadow Pike, and Jacqueline F. Coffey, 44, of Irvine, were charged Saturday with first- and third-degree trafficking of a controlled substance.

According to a release from the Richmond Police Department, officers observed Prather and Coffey engaged in a suspected drug deal.

After approaching them, the officers discovered a bottle on Prather’s person containing 42 oxycodone pills, 15.5 alprazolam pills and on clonazepram pill.  

As Prather was being placed under arrest, he allegedly pushed one of the officers and attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended. He then was charged with resisting arrest.

Coffey was found with $416 on her person, according to the police report, and she was served with a warrant for non-payment of fines.

Both suspects were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, where they remained Monday evening.

Berea woman charged with drug possession

On Thursday, police charged Ashley Fryer, 26, of Berea, with first- and third-degree possession of a controlled substance as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

At about 3:41 p.m., an officer was called to the area of North First Street and Moberly Avenue to investigate a report of an intoxicated person. Upon arrival, the officer encountered Fryer, who, according to the release, appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant other than alcohol.

Fryer was charged with public intoxication and taken to the MCDC, where a search of her purse revealed about 27.5 Xanax pills, half an oxycodone pill, a metal spoon and a syringe.

Fryer remained in jail Monday evening.

Man charged with receiving stolen property

John H. Nester, 43, of Overland Drive, was charged with receiving stolen property over $500  Thursday in connection with a stolen Beta Brite electronic scrolling sign.

The sign was reported stolen the previous Tuesday. The victim said he had purchased the sign through an auction, and it was delivered and left on his front porch.

The package containing the sign was determined to have been stolen from the porch early in the afternoon, according to the release.

According to an RPD news release, investigators found evidence that Nester transferred the sign to another party shortly after the theft.

Nester was jailed and released the next day on bond.

Richmond theft reports

Residents of an apartment in the 200 block of Hallie Irvine Street reported Saturday that their unsecured apartment had been burglarized the night before or in the early morning and several items had been stolen.

Reported missing were: a Blackberry cell phone, an Al Karter cell phone, four personal checkbooks, a Gateway netbook, $1,185 in cash, an Xbox 360 with two controllers, Visa cards, a floor lamp, a Time Warner cable box and assorted Xbox games. Estimated loss: $3,956.

On June 10, a resident of the 400 block of Fifth Street reported his home had been broken into early that afternoon and several items were stolen.

Reported missing were: a silver Toshiba laptop, a black Toshiba laptop, a black Blackberry cell phone, a gold, man’s wedding ring studded with seven to eight small diamonds, a gold, woman’s wedding ring with a large diamond in the middle surrounded by several small diamonds, a pair of gold earrings, 25 lapel pins of various colors, a gold bracelet, a collection of state quarters, a Samsung Galaxy cell phone and two Palm Pilot PDAs. Estimated loss: $17,211.

Also on June 10, a resident of the 400 block of Breck Avenue reported several items were stolen from his unsecured apartment during the past day. Reported missing was an older model Zenith television, a Zenith VCR, a Sanyo VCR, various DVD’s and VCR movies, a round, brown antique end table, $47 in cash, a wallet, credit cards, personal identification documents and several bottles of prescription medication. Estimated loss: $997.

    Between October 2011 and September 2012, Eric Kelley had sexual relations with Lawson’s two daughters, according to court documents.
    She was charged with complicity after police said they learned Lawson knew of the crimes but didn’t try to stop them or alert authorities.

  • No extra jail time for parents on prostitution charge

    Anthony and Kathy Hart, two Madison County residents who pleaded guilty May 21 to prostituting their daughters, won’t be seeing any extra time in jail.
    Both parents, who served time in jail while their charges were pending, were sentenced to probation Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.
