Stabbing trial delayed until September

RICHMOND — The trial date for a first-degree assault case has been pushed back yet again, this time because of an eight-month delay in receiving medical records.

Misty Riddell, 20, is charged with first-degree assault in an April 22 attack against another woman, according to court records. She faces 10 to 20 years in prison if she is convicted.

Riddell was scheduled to stand trial Monday. This was a continuance from her first trial date of Sept. 17, 2012.

Her attorney, public advocate Justin Hoskins, told Madison Circuit Judge William G. Clouse that medical records needed for Riddell’s defense just became available this month. Hoskins said he filed the records request in September.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Jennifer Smith said she did not object to defense counsel’s motion for a continuance, as long it was “not turned into a bond reduction.”

Clouse granted the continuance, and no changes were made in Riddell’s bond.

A new trial date was scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 3.

Riddell is accused of stabbing 18-year-old Brooke Feltner at a home on Mallory Court. Riddell was pregnant at the time, and at a previous court hearing, Smith said the attack was “over a man.”

Feltner was stabbed in the chest, and she had to undergo surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She spent time in the intensive care unit while recovering, according to Smith.

Riddell has since had her baby, and despite requests for a bond reduction and ankle bracelet monitoring, Clouse has not lowered her $100,000 bond.
