Ex-employee charged with stealing more than $18,000 from gas station

RICHMOND — Richmond Police on Tuesday charged Melody A. Nolan, 32, of South Third Street, with theft by unlawful taking (more than $10,000), a class C felony, after she was accused of stealing from her former employer.

A representative of Exxon Friendly Mart on Lexington Road told officers that Nolan had taken about $18,108.59 in July and August, according to an RPD news release.

Nolan was taken into custody after appearing at the police station, the release stated. She was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center and released Wednesday morning, according to the jail’s online records.

Richmond man charged with drug offenses after arrest on warrant

Michael W. VanWinkle, 21, of Richmond, was charged Wednesday with first-degree possession of of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers arrested him on the strength of a Madison County warrant.

According to the release, officers encountered VanWinkle at the Main Street Gulf and took him into custody on a charge of failing to appear in court. While searching VanWinkle, officers found two small packets of heroin, three syringes and a spoon.

VanWinkle was lodged in the detention center, where he remained Thursday morning.

Theft from vehicle

A resident of the 200 block of Bellevue Drive reported Tuesday his vehicle had been unlawfully entered and several tools were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry on the vehicle. Reported missing: A yellow Champion portable generator, an unknown brand 1.5 hp air compressor, a Porter Cable cordless drill, a flashlight and sawzall combination, a Stihl 18-inch gas-powered hedge trimmer model HS45 and an Echo gas-powered weed trimmer. Estimated loss: $685.
